Being a proud product of the coalmines of KY, I felt like it was my duty to watch this series. Some of the name dropping sends chills down my spine. Like, "Tate's Creek Bridge" I noticed it didn't look like "it" the last time I was there. That's 'cause it's NOT! The first season is actually filmed on the outskirts of Pittsburgh, PA. Season #2 & #3 are filmed in Southern California. I noticed Palm Trees in some background shots in #2. We didn't have Palm Trees; we had tobacco plants and Mulberry Trees. I didn't think my homees would put up with camera crews from Hollywood showing up on their front porch. I do like the show, it makes me want to drink bourbon and shoot cans and bottles with a loaded weapon.

If you enjoy the character Raylan Givens, read "Pronto," "Riding the Rap," and "Raylan," by Elmore Leonard. The try Leonard's "Cuba Libre," "The Moonshine War," and "City Primeval."

This series brought to life the stories from "Fire in the Hole" by the old master Elmore Leonard: http://www.elmoreleonard.com/index.php?/stories/fire_in_the_hole/

I was very excited about this show, being that I love action movies and think Olyphant is a great actor. Imagine my disappointment when it became apparent that this was another attack on Conservatism… Among other things they mix a bunch of white supremacists Nazis with crosses and Bibles—which has absolutely NOTHING to do with “Southern culture,” that is actually pictured in the movie more like a large expanse of trailer park trash! Yet, the Nazis (i.e., Socialist German Worker’s Party) despised religion—unless we consider their devotion to Gaya and the Environment, which was their religion… I’ll pass on this one!

Interesting main character whose personality and motivation is slowly revealed as the story unfolds in the first season. Set in Kentucky so enjoy the hillbilly culture and music. Some violence every episode especially in the final couple of episodes. Not for kids.

If you aren't watching this show, you should be. I disagree with the comment, "Among other things they mix a bunch of white supremacists Nazis with crosses and Bibles!" Southern culture is alive and well represented in this series. The tattoos and religion are relative to the controversy of the Confederate Flag. It's just set design though and has little to do with the series itself.

This show is witty, engaging, and addictively entertaining. The writing is very true to Elmore Leonard's style. Tim Olyphant's Raylan Givens satisfies my intense desire to have a little more Seth Bullock in my life - even if it's a different time period and place. Great TV.

This is a new show that stars Timothy Olyphant as a U.S. marshall that has been relegated to his home state of Kentucky for shooting a man. But its ok, he was justified. This is a new take on the same-old cop show, with a little bit of western flare and wit thrown in for good measure. Staff picks February 2011.

pros and cons of dvds: this series is addictive; watched 4 episodes in a row; consuming this much sadistic violence can't be good for you, but then the episodes were meant to be consumed one per week--kind of like a chocolate eclair.
