Yikes! This is very dark and difficult to read in some places. It does drag you into the story, so don't start it if you are hesitant. Once started, you can't stop. Well written.
This book sucks you in with its progressive story line. I was completely intrigued and somewhat horrified by the events that take place in the small town of Wind Gap. The author has a gritty style and exceptional talent for painting raw human emotions.
In Sharp Objects, Gillian Flynn creates not just a highly dysfunctional family, but a whole dysfunctional town. I grew up in small towns, but thankfully none like Flynn's Wind Gap, Mo. Sharp Objects is smart and incisive. Flynn writes crazy really well.
You know about two thirds into the book who did it. What you learn later that there is more to it than that. And that takes only a very few pages. Never the less. Good read!
Good book, yet doesn't build up enough tension towards the climax. It too gently eases the reader into the critical point of the story. However the unexpected twist makes up for it.
An excellent mystery/suspense book. You may think you have it all figured out 2/3 of the way through, but I'd almost guarantee you won't!
Gillian Flynn shows great promise in her debut novel, Sharp Objects. This story is not for the faint of heart. This book can be graphic, shocking, and down-right depressing, but this was a great book. Flynn nailed the small-town mindsets of the characters and made you wonder how dysfunctional some families can be. I thought I knew who the killer was near the beginning of the book, but was definately surprised who it turned out to be--keep reading until the end!
Great writing - scary and crazy. I couldn't put it down till the end. She has the evils of small towns nailed.
Very dark and disturbing book but a great storyline intricately woven!
